Senior Tax Accountant

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join our Tax team in Townsville. This role offers the chance to develop technical capability while working closely with a portfolio of SME clients in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support and manage a portfolio of SME clients across individuals, companies, trusts and group structures.
• Work across tax compliance, accounting and business services, identifying opportunities for proactive advice.
• Build strong, trusted client relationships beyond the annual tax cycle.
• Prepare and review tax returns, financial statements, BAS, GST, FBT, CGT and Division 7A.
• Manage workflow, priorities, deadlines and WIP to keep jobs moving and clients informed.

Required profile

• 6–8 years’ experience in Australian public practice, preferably in a small to mid‑sized firm.
• Strong experience with SME clients across individuals, companies, trusts and group structures.
• Solid technical foundation in BAS, GST, FBT, CGT, Division 7A, tax compliance and financial reporting.
• Confident communicator who can build long‑term client relationships.
• Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and continuous learning.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero.
• Experience using FYI.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
