Senior Systems Administrator – Windows, SQL & Cloud

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to join an established Application Hosting team supporting business‑critical applications within a large enterprise environment. You will be responsible for the design, operation and continuous improvement of Windows, SQL Server and web‑hosting platforms, leveraging PowerShell, Terraform and modern DevOps practices.

Key responsibilities

• Administer Windows Server, SQL Server (2012‑2025) and IIS environments, handling provisioning, configuration, monitoring and support.
• Manage Microsoft monitoring and configuration‑management tools, including alerts, patching and deployments.
• Maintain Active Directory services, Group Policy, security groups and identity administration.
• Support Azure and AWS infrastructure – virtual machines, EC2, Azure SQL PaaS and SQL Managed Instance.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts, Azure Automation Runbooks, Terraform code and GitHub Actions workflows.
• Use GitHub for version‑control of scripts and infrastructure code.
• Produce and keep up‑to‑date technical documentation and system‑design artefacts.
• Lead or contribute to platform migrations, upgrades and new technology implementations.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring and knowledge sharing to team members.

Required profile

• Strong experience administering Microsoft Windows Server environments.
• Extensive background supporting and administering Microsoft SQL Server.
• Proven experience with enterprise web‑hosting (IIS) and related Microsoft technologies.
• Intermediate to advanced PowerShell scripting skills, including conditional logic, functions and error handling.
• Experience using GitHub for source control and script management.
• Solid troubleshooting abilities and a proactive approach to operational issues.

What we offer

• Contract from 14 Sept 2026 to 12 Sept 2027 (fixed‑term).
• Rate of $116.18 per hour plus 12 % superannuation.
• Hybrid work arrangement – minimum 50 % office attendance per fortnight.
• Up to 40 hours per week.
