Senior System Engineer

About the role

The Senior System Engineer is a key technical subject matter expert within the Emergency Communications Information Services (ECIS) Infrastructure team, responsible for maintaining and improving ICT infrastructure that supports 24/7 mission‑critical emergency communications.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, monitor and maintain secure, highly available ICT infrastructure across on‑premises data centre and hybrid‑cloud environments.
• Support design, build and implementation of infrastructure solutions, providing capacity planning and scalability expertise.
• Develop and implement asset lifecycle and maintenance plans to keep infrastructure performant and secure.
• Lead analysis and troubleshooting of complex technical issues, recommending improvements for reliability and performance.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in IT or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• At least five years of hands‑on infrastructure engineering and operations experience in 24/7 environments.
• Strong communication and documentation skills with ability to collaborate with stakeholders.

Required skills

• Microsoft 365 and Azure administration (Microsoft 365 Administrator Expert, Azure Administrator Associate).
• VMware virtualization, Citrix, enterprise storage, backup/recovery solutions.
• PowerShell scripting and automation.
• Experience with infrastructure monitoring, security tooling, and change management.
