Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Amplar Health, part of the Medibank Group, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer in its Platform Engineering team. You will help design and deliver secure, reliable and scalable applications that connect virtual healthcare, telehealth, in-clinic and in-home services. It is a senior, hands-on role taking ownership of complex technical outcomes from discovery through to production, working closely with product, architecture, security, delivery and clinical stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, test and implement complex software features, APIs and services.
• Provide pragmatic technical leadership while staying hands-on with development.
• Make and communicate design decisions on scalability, security, maintainability, performance and delivery speed.
• Shape engineering standards across testing, CI/CD, observability, resilience and secure development.
• Break complex initiatives into testable deliverables and identify technical risks and dependencies.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, coaching, code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Work across engineering, product, architecture, cyber security, privacy, clinical and operational teams.
• Support production systems, lead root-cause analysis and turn incident learnings into lasting improvements.

Required profile

• Five or more years of professional software development experience.
• Track record of owning complex production systems or significant technical initiatives.
• Ability to mentor engineers, influence technical decisions and explain complex concepts to different audiences.
• Experience in agile, cross-functional product teams from discovery through to production support.
• A qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline is welcomed; equivalent professional experience is also relevant.

Required skills

• Advanced capability in at least one modern programming language; the environment uses .NET/C#, and Java, Python or JavaScript/TypeScript is also valued.
• Modern web applications, APIs and distributed services.
• Software architecture, design patterns, secure coding and non-functional requirements.
• GitHub or a comparable version-control platform, automated testing and CI/CD.
• Relational and/or document databases.
• Nice to have: RESTful APIs, event-driven integration, AWS and cloud-native architecture, infrastructure as code, Docker or Kubernetes, observability and incident response, healthcare or privacy-sensitive environments, and engineering communities of practice.
