Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Transport for NSW is looking for a Senior Software Engineer in Macquarie Park, NSW, to join a team that builds and refines technology experiences for its customers. The role covers the full software development lifecycle, from design through delivery and operations, and contributes to greenfield initiatives and improvements to existing platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and deliver reliable, scalable software and platform solutions, incorporating modern technologies including AI-driven capabilities
• Build and deliver complex software solutions across frontend, backend and APIs in large-scale environments
• Develop digital products and platforms aligned with industry trends and best practices
• Improve system performance, scalability, observability and security
• Collaborate with stakeholders to turn business requirements into robust technical solutions
• Contribute to strengthening the engineering and learning culture

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience delivering modern software and platform solutions in complex environments, with strong full stack and cloud engineering capabilities
• Passionate about continuous learning and emerging technologies
• Strong solution design and problem-solving skills
• Thrives in fast-changing environments and shows strong ownership of outcomes

Required skills

• TypeScript, Node.js and modern frontend frameworks such as React, Redux and Next.js
• Relational and NoSQL databases
• APIs, microservices, serverless platforms and GraphQL
• Exposure to AI and intelligent systems, including large language models, retrieval-augmented systems and reasoning workflows
• Platform engineering and DevOps, including CI/CD pipelines and automation

The position is permanent and full time, with a salary range of $163,145 to $182,721. Flexible work options may be available. Applications close on 7 November 2026.
