Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Fat Zebra is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Consumer Data Right (CDR) platform team. You will be a key technical contributor, owning complex backend and platform features while helping raise the quality bar across the team. The role operates in a highly regulated environment, building a production‑grade payments platform at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build secure, scalable APIs and backend services using Kotlin and/or Java (Spring Boot).
• Take ownership of complex features end‑to‑end, from design through production delivery.
• Contribute to technical decisions, balancing short‑term delivery with long‑term maintainability.
• Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines and AWS infrastructure as code.
• Implement strong authentication and authorisation patterns, including PKI, OAuth2/OIDC, and token‑based systems.
• Build and maintain observability: structured logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerting.
• Participate in incident response, root‑cause analysis and remediation of recurring issues.
• Collaborate with engineering, data and product teams to align outcomes with business goals.
• Conduct code reviews, share knowledge and help grow the broader team’s capability.
