Senior Software Engineer - 9 months

About the role

Leidos Australia is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Defence ICT team on a 9‑month fixed‑term contract, with the possibility of extension. The role provides technical leadership for the design, development and integration of software within a complex Defence ICT delivery program.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, development and integration of software components aligned to system requirements and architecture.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and ensure implementation meets integration and delivery standards.
• Oversee development of key capabilities such as data processing, synchronization and core services.
• Support system integration across software, infrastructure and networking components.
• Lead verification, validation and testing activities to meet acceptance criteria.
• Drive fault analysis and remediation to achieve system readiness and performance.
• Contribute to technical documentation and support transition to operations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in software engineering within complex ICT environments, preferably Defence or government.
• Strong programming expertise in Java, Python, C++ or similar languages.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams across the full software lifecycle.
• Solid understanding of system integration, verification processes and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
• Australian citizenship and eligibility for NV2 security clearance.
