Senior Ombudsman, Banking and Finance

About the role

The Senior Ombudsman will join AFCA’s Banking & Finance team to resolve standard and complex disputes, lead a team of Ombudsman and Adjudicators, and influence industry standards through fair decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage personal monthly decision allocations and maintain a sustainable pipeline for the team.
• Coach, guide and develop direct reports, delivering performance and personal growth.
• Support the Lead Ombudsman and act as delegate on initiatives.
• Collaborate with other Senior Ombudsmen, manage team budget and workforce planning.
• Engage members, industry associations and consumer groups to improve standards.
• Contribute to business planning, new ways of working and continual improvement of policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Relevant legal qualifications with significant Banking and Finance experience.
• Sound knowledge of financial services law and regulation.
• Proven leadership experience coaching senior professionals.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, able to explain complex legal concepts clearly.
• Experience operating independently with accountability for outcomes.
