Senior Microsoft Security Specialist

About the role

The Senior Microsoft Security Specialist is a key technical position within OceanaGold’s Information Security team in Brisbane. Reporting to the Head of Information Security, the role provides deep expertise across the Microsoft security and identity ecosystem and influences the design and maturity of security controls in Microsoft 365 and Azure.

Key responsibilities

• Provide senior technical expertise for Microsoft Entra ID, including Conditional Access, hybrid identity, identity governance, entitlement management and application integrations.
• Lead maturity of Entra ID Protection, risk‑based access controls and Zero Trust architecture.
• Drive improvements in Microsoft Defender XDR and Microsoft Sentinel, creating detection use cases, automation, playbooks and alert optimisation.
• Support complex identity and security incidents with threat hunting, containment and remediation.
• Manage the relationship with the managed security services provider to enhance detection and response capabilities.
• Strengthen privileged access and identity management, including least‑privilege models and enterprise certificate services.
• Implement Microsoft Purview for Data Loss Prevention, Information Protection and Insider Risk Management.
• Contribute to security and governance controls for Microsoft Copilot and AI adoption.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring across the Information Security team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in enterprise information or cybersecurity roles.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Defender XDR and Microsoft Purview.
• Experience administering privileged access management or privileged identity management solutions.
• Experience supporting enterprise certificate services and working with infrastructure or platform teams at an advanced support level.
• Exposure to managed security service providers, security operations, incident response and security reporting.
