Senior Medical Officer - Staff Specialist, Obstetrics

About the role

Queensland Maternity Education, within Clinical Skills Development Services, is recruiting a Senior Medical Officer - Staff Specialist (Obstetrics) in Brisbane North. The role combines obstetric expertise with education leadership and statewide workforce development to improve outcomes for women and babies, designing and delivering maternity-focused programs, especially for rural and regional communities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and evaluate interprofessional maternity education programs supporting safe, contemporary obstetric practice across Queensland.
• Deliver specialised education on planned breech birth, including evidence-based care, respectful maternity care principles and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Provide expert obstetric consultation, mentorship and clinical advice to maternity clinicians and education participants.
• Contribute to maternity research, educational resources and statewide projects that strengthen workforce capability.
• Support quality improvement, clinical governance, simulation-based education and innovation.

Required profile

• Extensive obstetric expertise.
• Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and lead face-to-face and online programs.
