Senior Mechanical Engineer – Power Generation

About the role
Aggreko is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design, application engineering, and technical support for power generation and temperature control solutions across the APAC region. The role covers diesel and gas generator systems, fuel systems, and temperature control plant, ensuring performance, reliability, safety, and compliance with Australian and international standards.
Key responsibilities
- Take technical ownership of design and application engineering for power generation and temperature control projects from concept through FAT/SAT and commissioning.
- Deliver detailed mechanical designs for mining and power generation projects, sizing and specifying engines, generators, fuel systems, chillers, heat exchangers, HVAC equipment, pumps and ancillary components.
- Support design and integration of fuel‑gas conditioning systems for gas engines and provide operational technical support, fault‑finding, root‑cause analysis and performance optimisation.
- Provide technical input to sales teams for bids, tenders and proposals, and coordinate with engineering disciplines, project managers, suppliers and contractors.
- Produce clear technical reports and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related) with willingness to obtain CPEng/RPEQ registration.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in power generation and/or temperature control systems (diesel/gas generators, chillers, HVAC, industrial cooling/heating).
- Strong understanding of diesel and gas generator performance optimisation, reliability engineering and fuel parameters.
- Hands‑on troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills.
Required skills
- 3D AutoCAD (or similar CAD tools) for mechanical drawings and layouts.
- Sizing and selection of mechanical equipment such as engines, generators, fuel systems, chillers, heat exchangers, HVAC equipment and pumps.
- Knowledge of fuel gas conditioning systems, diesel fuel standard EN590 and biodiesel standard EN14214.
- Strong written and verbal communication, technical reporting and basic project management capability.
