Senior Materials Handling Engineer

About the role

Join Sedgman's experienced materials handling team in Perth to deliver innovative designs across a range of domestic and international projects. You will be involved from concept development through detailed design, construction and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and recommend design methods, specifications and performance criteria for new projects.
• Prepare feasibility studies, surveys, design layouts, bills of quantities and cost estimates.
• Generate equipment specifications and support procurement activities during project execution.
• Manage mechanical discipline budget and schedule throughout all project phases.
• Conduct site inspections and liaise with suppliers, clients, consultants and commissioning engineers.
• Provide engineering support to installation, construction and commissioning teams, including occasional on‑site commissioning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 7‑10 years of experience in project design, commissioning and on‑site operations, preferably with materials handling equipment.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor junior engineers.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• CPEng or Chartered status is advantageous but not mandatory.

Required skills

• Design and analysis of conveyor systems.
• Experience with crushing, screening, material storage and milling equipment.
• Preparation of feasibility studies, design layouts and cost estimates.
• Budget and schedule management for mechanical disciplines.
• Site inspection and commissioning support.
