Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Mech/CI)

About the role

Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is hiring a Senior Manufacturing Engineer (mechanical / continuous improvement) in Sydney. The Manufacturing Engineering team owns production readiness and process engineering for the Undersea Dominance product range, from mechanical and electrical hardware build to full system integration and test. The role owns the manufacturing CI program, equipment and process SOPs, and acts as the main interface with mechanical design for production equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Own the manufacturing CI program: lead value stream mapping, run Kaizen and rapid improvement events, and drive yield improvement and scrap reduction.
• Apply structured problem-solving methods (8D, A3, 5-Why) with MEs, QEs and production techs on root-cause analysis of defects.
• Identify production bottlenecks and lead cost-reduction initiatives on tooling, cycle time, material use and scrap-to-rework.
• Own PFMEA development and ensure Control Plans are linked and current.
• Write and maintain equipment and process SOPs for cranes, robotic positioners, AGVs, vacuum and purge procedures and similar.
• Bridge mechanical design and the production floor for tooling, fixtures and production equipment, and support capital equipment business cases.
• Work with QA and SC on supplier industrialisation: capability assessments, Supplier Production Readiness Reviews and on-site audits.
• Embed DFM features in design, capture lessons learned and share them in NPI programs.

Required profile

• 8+ years in manufacturing or process engineering, with CI / Lean, DFX, PFMEA and supplier industrialisation experience in a complex electromechanical environment.
• Demonstrated ownership of a CI or process improvement program.
• Fluent in structured problem-solving (8D, A3, DMAIC, 5-Why, Ishikawa) and process-risk tools (PFMEA, Control Plans).
• Hands-on experience leading DFM/DFA reviews and assessing supplier manufacturing processes.
• Ability to work across disciplines and influence without direct authority.
• Australian Government Security Clearance (NV2).

Required skills

• Mechanical systems assembly and processes such as CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication / welding, injection moulding and composite panel fabrication.
• Tooling, fixtures and production equipment.
• Preferred: defence or aerospace manufacturing, value stream mapping and Kaizen, MES/ERP and production analytics, NX/Teamcenter.
