Senior Legal Counsel – Operations and Regulation

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our high‑performing Legal team. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, you will provide practical, outcome‑focused legal advice across energy regulation, operations and commercial matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice on energy regulation, policy, compliance and broader legal matters.
• Support regulatory submissions, enquiries, applications, consultations, price reviews, licences, accreditations and exemptions.
• Advise on regulatory engagement, climate‑change risk, emissions reporting and related schemes.
• Draft and negotiate contracts for goods and services supporting network operations.
• Respond to regulator requests and assist with claim resolution.
• Build trusted relationships with subject‑matter experts, managers and project leads across the organisation.

Required profile

• 6‑8+ years post‑qualified experience as an Australian Legal Practitioner or equivalent.
• Current practising certificate (foreign qualifications may be considered).
• Strong commercial and business acumen with analytical decision‑making skills.
• Highly developed stakeholder management and negotiation capabilities.
• Experience influencing senior stakeholders in an in‑house environment (highly desirable).

Required skills

• Extensive regulatory experience in energy sector.
• Strong contract drafting and negotiation experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Sound knowledge of contract fundamentals and principles.
