Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

G8 Education, one of Australia's largest early education providers with 350 centres under 21 brands, is looking for an experienced Senior Lawyer to join its team on a 6-month contract with the possibility of extension. Working closely with the Chief Legal & Risk Officer and Deputy General Counsel, you will advise on key commercial, privacy and regulatory matters and help strengthen the legal function. The role acts as a trusted adviser to senior leaders, providing strategic legal guidance, managing risk and supporting commercial and corporate initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex commercial contracting and negotiations
• Provide expert guidance on regulatory, compliance, privacy and property matters
• Support the management of disputes, litigation and employment-related matters
• Identify and mitigate legal and organisational risks proactively
• Contribute to the evolution of the legal function, including process optimisation and strategic direction
• Engage at a senior level with regulators, external counsel and key stakeholders

Required profile

• Generalist Senior Lawyer combining strong technical capability with commercial pragmatism and the ability to influence at senior leadership and executive level
• 10+ years' post-qualification experience, ideally across both top-tier private practice and in-house environments
• Experience in complex regulated sectors
• Demonstrated ability to deliver commercially pragmatic advice and outcomes at pace
