Senior Legal Counsel (Employment Law)

About the role

KPMG’s Office of General Counsel in Sydney is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its in‑house team. The role focuses on advising on employment matters, handling litigation and dispute resolution, and providing timely legal guidance across the firm.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and advise on a range of employment matters from investigations to disputes.
• Draft responsive documents for proceedings before the Fair Work Commission and/or Australian Human Rights Commission.
• Facilitate factual investigations in workers‑compensation matters.
• Collaborate with external counsel and internal teams on complex disputes and regulatory issues.
• Respond to orders, notices, summonses and subpoenas served on KPMG.
• Provide legal advice on employment‑related policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Current Practising Certificate.
• 5+ years post‑qualification experience in private practice at a major law firm.
• Strong academic record.
• Analytical, commercial and solution‑focused mindset.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage priorities and meet deadlines.
• Team‑oriented attitude with a focus on professional development.

Required skills

• Familiarity with Fair Work Commission proceedings.
• Familiarity with Australian Human Rights Commission proceedings.
• Experience drafting legal documents for employment‑related disputes.
