Senior Java Software Engineer – Market Surveillance

About the role

As a Senior Java Software Engineer on the Nasdaq Market Surveillance (NMS) team, you will design, develop, and maintain the core platform that ensures global markets remain fair, transparent, and efficient. You will work in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment, taking ownership of complex technical challenges and delivering impactful solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, troubleshoot, and implement solutions for the Nasdaq Market Surveillance platform.
• Review system requirements and business processes, and produce functional specifications.
• Participate in technical design reviews, estimate projects, create test plans, and conduct code reviews.
• Identify and resolve potential issues proactively, authoring technical specifications as needed.
• Mentor team members, promote efficiency, and apply current industry trends.
• Contribute to IT strategy, development, and integration services for internal and external clients.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Business/Finance, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience using Java.
• Experience in financial institutions or fintech is preferred but not mandatory.
• Australian citizenship or permanent residency with full working rights.
