Cyber Security Architect

About the role

In this role you will define and evolve the technology, platforms, use cases and processes that power Macquarie Cloud Services’ Security Operations Centre (SOC). As the Cyber Security Architect you will provide the technical vision and leadership to detect, respond to and remediate cyber threats at scale for a diverse customer base.

Key responsibilities

• Define the strategy, technology roadmap, platforms and operational processes for the SOC.
• Design and evolve managed security services such as SIEM‑as‑a‑Service, XDR, Global Secure Access and Microsoft security solutions.
• Act as the technical authority for the Microsoft Security stack, including Sentinel, Defender XDR, Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Identity, Defender for Office 365, Entra ID and Zero Trust architectures.
• Develop and continuously improve security use cases, detections, dashboards, playbooks and response workflows.
• Provide guidance on security strategy, cyber‑maturity and framework alignment (ACSC Essential Eight, NIST, ISO 27001, ISM).
• Evaluate emerging threats and advise customers on mitigation strategies.
• Mentor SOC analysts and security engineers and foster a culture of innovation.

Required profile

• Significant experience in cyber security architecture, security engineering or senior technical security leadership.
• Strong architecture and solution design experience in enterprise, MSP or consulting environments.
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance.

Required skills

• Deep expertise with Microsoft Sentinel, Defender XDR, Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Identity, Defender for Office 365, Entra ID and Zero Trust principles.
• Hands‑on experience building detections, analytics rules, workbooks and automation in Sentinel.
• Proficiency with SIEM platforms, detection engineering and SOC processes.
• Scripting and automation using KQL, Python and PowerShell.
• Networking knowledge across layers 3‑7 and protocols such as HTTP, HTTPS and SMTP.
• Familiarity with security frameworks: ACSC Essential Eight, NIST, ISO 27001, ISM, SABSA, TOGAF.
