Senior Freedom of Information Officer

About the role

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Freedom of Information Officer to ensure the public can access important government information fairly and efficiently. You will work within a supportive team, applying legislation to a variety of cases and contributing to transparency across the department.

Key responsibilities

• Process Freedom of Information (FOI) requests under the FOI Act 1982 across a wide range of departmental records.
• Make delegated decisions on access requests, ensuring compliance with statutory timeframes.
• Provide clear advice to staff and the public on FOI procedures and related matters.
• Identify complex issues, manage challenging requests, and support FOI projects.
• Develop and deliver practical training programs for colleagues.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience interpreting legislation and applying it to real‑world situations.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and sound judgement.
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex information to diverse audiences.
