Senior Estimator - Building & Construction

About the role

McMahon Services, a privately owned provider of construction, industrial and environmental services, is hiring a Senior Estimator for its Building & Construction team at the Head Office in Dry Creek, Adelaide. Reporting to the Business Manager, the Senior Estimator supervises the estimation team and prepares accurate cost, time, material, labour and equipment estimates for major projects, aiming for successful bids on commercial and industrial building, fit-out and maintenance projects worth $1 million to $50 million.

Key responsibilities

• Lead estimation and tender preparation: review RFX, plan tenders, prepare take-offs and develop first principles estimates for large projects
• Manage subcontractors and suppliers: prepare RFQs, analyse responses and build strong relationships
• Collaborate on competitive strategies, analyse past projects and propose process improvements
• Supervise and mentor the estimation team
• Engage clients and internal stakeholders to secure successful bids
• Integrate safety and quality standards into all estimation work

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years in large construction project estimation and on construction sites
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop estimation teams
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with mature judgment on cost trends and discrepancies
• Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to build client and stakeholder relationships
• Capacity to handle high stress, multi-task and comply with Australian Standards and HSE legislation
• Nice to have: quantity surveying degree, defence industry estimation experience and a strong network of South Australian suppliers and subcontractors

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of estimation systems such as CostX
• Microsoft Office Suite
