Senior Environmental Planner

About the role

Fyfe is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Planner to join its NSW Planning team in Sydney, NSW. The role leads complex environmental impact assessments and approvals within a high-performing approvals team, with renewable energy projects forming a large part of the current pipeline. Direct renewables experience is not essential.

Key responsibilities

• Lead environmental assessments and approvals, managing complex environmental impact assessments and planning approvals for major projects, including state-significant developments.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, bringing together specialist technical inputs to deliver integrated, high-quality outcomes.
• Take ownership of planning deliverables and work with Principal Planners on significant assignments, meeting quality, programme and budget expectations.
• Mentor and develop consultants and graduate planners through coaching, mentoring, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
• Champion continuous improvement and help shape systems and processes.
• Partner with clients, regulators, stakeholders and colleagues to provide responsive advice.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of relevant environmental planning experience; depth of experience is considered alongside years in the profession.
• Strong experience leading complex environmental impact assessments and approvals.
• Confidence coordinating multidisciplinary technical inputs and leading planning workstreams.
• Knowledge of assessment processes such as Environmental Impact Statements, Reviews of Environmental Factors and state-based planning requirements.
• Passion for mentoring junior professionals.
• Proactive, practical and adaptable, confident enough to suggest improvements.
