Senior Electrical Engineer – Rail Projects

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its rail team in Sydney. You will design and deliver low‑voltage, high‑voltage, earthing and bonding solutions for major rail and metro projects across Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver lighting, LV, HV, earthing and bonding engineering services for rail projects.
• Produce engineering drawings, reports, specifications and tender packages from concept through construction.
• Conduct feasibility studies, load calculations and site inspections.
• Review electrical designs to ensure compliance with Australian codes, client requirements and SMEC standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to maintain quality and timeliness of deliverables.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in electrical design for rail or transport infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of Australian electrical codes, safety assurance and system engineering processes.
• CPEng registration or active progression towards registration.

Required skills

• AutoCAD, Revit, PowerCAD, AGI 32, DIALux, CDEGS.
• Preparation of detailed electrical design documentation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
