Senior Director of Hardware Engineering

About the role

Arista Networks is seeking a Senior Director to lead its Sydney hardware engineering organization. You will work directly with hyperscale and enterprise customers to translate their scaling and performance challenges into industry‑leading networking Ethernet switches.

Key responsibilities

• Scale and grow the Sydney hardware team, managing engineers across hardware, firmware, signal integrity, diagnostics and FPGA.
• Define and implement new processes and tools to improve productivity and efficiency.
• Establish and manage local hardware labs, including site planning, equipment, power and negotiations.
• Collaborate with software and central engineering directors to expand cross‑functional capabilities.
• Drive vendor roadmaps for ASICs, connectors, PCB vendors and align them with product plans.
• Lead schematic and board design reviews and ensure high first‑pass yields in manufacturing.

Required profile

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics.
• 4+ years of management experience and 10+ years of hardware design experience in networking or systems hardware.
• Proven track record leading multiple hardware projects from concept to production.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with executive leadership.

Required skills

• High‑layer‑count PCB and high‑speed design (Ethernet, SMBus, SPI, PCIe, POE, PTP, MDIO).
• Design for manufacturability (DFM) and experience with contract manufacturers.
• Embedded x86/ARM system design, FPGA design, gigabit+ signaling and regulatory compliance.
• Signal integrity and power integrity analysis (impedance, PDN, differential routing, insertion loss, S‑parameters, TDR, VNA).
• Scripting or general software development (strong plus).
