Senior Design Engineer

About the role

A fast-growing global consumer product brand based in Sydney is looking for a Senior Design Engineer in Central Sydney. The role suits someone who takes a hands-on approach to problem solving, delivering designs and robustly engineered solutions to specification with a high degree of quality. It is permanent and full-time with flexible hours.

Key responsibilities

• Take responsibility for decision making across the complete product lifecycle and its impact on environment and community
• Ensure products are holistically considered and linked to the company's mission and philosophy
• Detail design of electromechanical assemblies with knowledge of materials, production, finishing and surface finishing techniques
• Build fast-turnaround prototypes, internally and with contractors
• Perform tolerance stack analyses and technical design reviews (DFM/DFA) to ensure mass-production viability and quality
• Communicate with overseas manufacturers on component and assembly development and quality expectations
• Drive technical root-cause analysis (FMEA) and corrective actions to resolve design and performance issues
• Maintain technical documentation and report to stakeholders
• Follow product performance test procedures to meet regulatory standards and brand expectations
• Support the development and delivery of the strategic product roadmap

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, mechatronic or manufacturing engineering with electromechanical product design experience in R&D and manufacturing
• Minimum 7+ years of hands-on engineering experience
• End-to-end product development experience
• Experience with domestic consumer products in the food or beverage industry is a plus
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams locally and abroad and with international manufacturing partners

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques, materials, manufacturing processes and rapid prototyping
• Familiarity with regional and international safety compliance standards
• CAD modelling (SolidWorks); mechanical and thermal analysis knowledge highly desirable
• Motor-driven product design experience highly desirable
