Senior Data Engineer - Semantic Layer & Governance

About the role

Optiver is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build a unified, governed data foundation that gives Finance, People, Procurement, Tax and Compliance one consistent view of the truth. You will design and build the semantic layer that powers reporting, self-service analytics, conversational analytics and AI agents, with full architectural ownership and production delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and own delivery of shared data products across Finance, People, Procurement and Compliance, from design to production.
• Build and evolve the semantic layer, writing models, tests and documentation.
• Design scalable data pipelines, data models and governed data products using Databricks, dbt, SQL and PySpark.
• Implement governance end-to-end: Unity Catalog access controls, column-level security, data classification, lineage and data quality.
• Drive DataHub adoption by defining metadata standards, lineage definitions and data ownership models.
• Translate complex stakeholder requirements into production-grade data solutions and set the engineering standard through code quality and PR reviews.
• Partner with the data team to improve CI/CD, testing, observability and data quality.

Required profile

• 8+ years designing and building production data solutions, with a track record of leading complex technical initiatives.
• Expert-level SQL and data transformation skills, with strong hands-on experience in dbt, PySpark or both.
• Deep experience with Databricks, lakehouse architectures, Delta tables, Unity Catalog and downstream BI or AI workloads.
• Experience implementing governance at scale and building trusted business-facing data products in Finance, HR, Procurement or similar domains.
• Ability to challenge unclear or incorrect requirements; no prior trading or financial experience needed, supported by an onboarding program.
