Senior Cyber Security Analyst

About the role

Join Avant's Cyber Defence team as a Senior Cyber Security Analyst, protecting the systems, data and services used by over 90,000 medical professionals across Australia. You will lead threat detection, response, vulnerability management and security operations in a highly regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Act as escalation point for intrusion detection across hybrid on‑premises and cloud environments, leading incident response, post‑incident reviews and root‑cause analysis.
• Conduct forensic analysis, event and IOC correlation, and develop proactive threat‑hunting activities using intelligence feeds.
• Design, maintain and refine incident response plans, custom detections and playbooks, leveraging scripting and AI‑enabled automation.
• Oversee vulnerability and exposure management, prioritising remediation with platform delivery teams.
• Manage security tool configurations, drive automation improvements and act as primary technical contact for external security partners and MSSPs.
• Produce KRI reporting, dashboards and insights to communicate security posture to stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum 5+ years in Information Security, including at least 2 years in a senior analyst role.
• Experience in regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, financial services) subject to APRA CPS234 or ISO 27001.
• Strong communication skills, able to present technical findings to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with SIEM platforms and EDR tools.
• Deep knowledge of incident response, digital forensics and threat intelligence frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK, STIX/TAXII.
• Proficiency in vulnerability management platforms and exposure management tooling.
• Security automation and scripting experience for orchestration and response.
• Understanding of cloud logging, monitoring and security controls.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., GCFA, GCIH, Security+).
