Senior Corporate Lawyer – Energy & Retail

About the role

Origin is seeking a Senior Corporate Lawyer to join its Retail Legal team, supporting the Retail and Origin Zero businesses. The role focuses on complex energy regulation, regulatory investigations and practical legal advice to enable informed business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the Retail business on complex energy regulatory matters and manage legal issues arising from regulatory incidents and investigations.
• Engage with regulators such as the Australian Energy Regulator and ACCC, and provide clear, practical recommendations for business decisions.
• Draft and review customer contracts and communications to ensure clarity and compliance.
• Monitor legislative, regulatory and policy changes and keep the business informed.
• Manage external legal advisers, ensuring commercial, customer‑focused and cost‑effective support.
• Mentor junior lawyers and contribute to a collaborative legal team.

Required profile

• Admission as an Australian lawyer with 8–10+ years post‑admission experience.
• Strong knowledge of energy regulation, particularly retail energy regulation.
• Experience handling regulatory incidents and investigations with bodies such as the Australian Energy Regulator or ACCC.
• Sound judgement, practical solutions focus and ability to explain complex issues clearly.
• Strong influencing, stakeholder management and ability to manage competing deadlines.
