Senior Consultant Security Assessor

About the role

EY is hiring a Senior Consultant Cyber Security Assessor in Canberra (Ngambri) to deliver Essential Eight maturity assessments and contribute to broader assurance engagements for Federal Government, Defence and regulated industry clients. The role covers end-to-end assessment workstreams, including evidence collection, control validation and finding development, with a high degree of autonomy while supporting engagement leads and mentoring juniors. It is a hybrid position, and flexible hours may be possible.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver Essential Eight assessment activities from planning through to reporting
• Review documents in detail and validate security controls on site
• Assess the design and operating effectiveness of controls against maturity requirements
• Develop clear findings, evidence summaries and remediation recommendations
• Validate control implementation with client stakeholders
• Contribute to assessment reports and executive-level outputs
• Guide and oversee Consultants to ensure quality and consistency
• Support continuous improvement of assessment methods and delivery

Required profile

• 4 to 7 years' experience in cyber security, risk or assurance roles
• Demonstrated experience delivering security assessments
• Experience in government or regulated environments desirable
• Audit, assurance or control testing background highly regarded
• Tertiary qualification in information security, IT or a related discipline

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of the Essential Eight and practical understanding of ISM and Australian Government security requirements
• Experience with complementary frameworks such as NIST and ISO 27001
• Project management: planning, scheduling, tracking progress against milestones and escalating risks
• Certifications such as CISA, CISSP, CISM or ISO 27001 Auditor desirable
