Senior Clinical AI Engineer

About the role

Insight Timer is seeking a Senior Clinical AI Engineer to build production‑grade AI experiences for its global meditation and wellbeing community. You will work closely with the Head of AI, engineers, product teams and clinical researchers to create safe, evidence‑informed AI agents that support mental health, sleep, stress and behavior change.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and ship production‑grade AI agents for meditation, wellbeing, mental health, sleep, anxiety, stress and behavior change.
• Integrate AI agents with backend APIs, data and content systems and product interfaces.
• Build evaluation, testing and monitoring pipelines to ensure reliability, safety and continual improvement.
• Define clinical and wellbeing rubrics for AI outputs, assessing clarity, usefulness, safety and evidence alignment.
• Identify and mitigate risks such as unsupported claims, unsafe recommendations or inappropriate advice.
• Architect modular, flexible workflows that enable easy testing, extension and scaling of AI capabilities.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with production AI agents, LLM‑based systems or AI‑powered workflows.
• Formal training or research experience in psychology, medicine, psychiatry, neuroscience, behavioral science, digital health, mental health, meditation, mindfulness or wellbeing science.
• Strong judgment about clinical claims, evidence quality, user vulnerability and real‑world applicability.
• Ability to translate clinical concepts into product requirements, prompts and engineering decisions.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Building reliable backend systems, APIs and distributed workflows.
• Experience with agent frameworks, orchestration tools, evaluation pipelines, prompt engineering, retrieval systems or LLM application architecture.
