Senior Botanist - Maternity Leave Cover

About the role

Biosis Australia is looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Botanist to join its Ecology team for a 12-month maternity leave cover position. There is strong potential for an ongoing role at one of its NSW offices, including Sydney, Western Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle or Albury. The successful candidate will lead and deliver ecological assessments, environmental approvals and contribute to conservation planning, giving expert advice on projects across New South Wales.

Key responsibilities

• Design and lead ecological survey programs and impact assessments tailored to client needs
• Prepare technical reports such as ecological impact assessments, vegetation mapping and offset advice and strategy
• Lead multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects
• Advise on NSW and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation
• Support junior staff in fieldwork, data analysis and reporting
• Liaise with clients, regulators and stakeholders
• Prepare project proposals and tender submissions
• Assist in preparing expert evidence and, depending on experience, present it
• Build relationships with clients, regulators, industry bodies and researchers

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in botany, ecology, environmental science or a related discipline
• Minimum 5 years of experience in ecological consulting or a related field
• Demonstrated expertise in Australian ecosystems
• Strong understanding of environmental legislation and the NSW policy framework
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver quality reports on time and within budget
• Current and valid driver's licence and right to work in Australia

Required skills

• BAM accreditation or working knowledge of its application is preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
