Senior Botanist

About the role

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Botanist to lead field‑based botanical surveys across Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Based in Darwin (or Perth), you will work on diverse projects ranging from mining sites to remote landscapes, delivering high‑quality ecological data and mitigation strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead baseline and monitoring botanical surveys, including flora and weed assessments, across WA and NT.
• Plan, deliver, and analyse ecology surveys independently or collaboratively, producing impact assessments and mitigation designs.
• Assist in managing technical performance and delivery of ecological projects to ensure high‑quality outcomes.
• Share knowledge and develop capability within AECOM’s growing ecology teams in both regions.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in environmental science, ecology, botany or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience conducting and leading botanical surveys in WA and NT environments, including mining and remote areas.
• Strong technical reporting ability and familiarity with Commonwealth and State environmental legislation.
• Valid WA driver’s licence and willingness to travel between WA and NT as project needs dictate.

Required skills

• Advanced field skills for botanical surveying.
• Proficiency with GIS desktop and data‑collection tools (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS, Fieldmaps).
• Technical reporting and data analysis.
• Knowledge of EPA technical guides and the Biodiversity Conservation Act.
