Senior Associate, Employment

About the role

Clifford Chance's Employment group in Sydney is looking for a Senior Associate to join its growing team. The group delivers coordinated, cross-border support on advisory, transactional and contentious employment matters, working closely with corporate, finance, restructuring and disputes teams across jurisdictions. The role offers the chance to work on complex, high-risk employment issues for an international client base.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on employment litigation, mediation and dispute resolution, employment contracts and policies, appointment and severance of senior executives, outsourcing of services, discrimination and equal opportunities, new and proposed employment legislation, downsizing and dismissals, confidentiality and goodwill protection, employment aspects of M&A transactions and employee/regulatory investigations.
• Work as part of a team to deliver commercial and practical legal solutions to clients.
• Draft legal documents clearly and concisely, and use effective research techniques to create solutions.
• Challenge and test advice against legal compliance and risks.
• Stay up to date by pursuing and expanding legal knowledge.
• Use client focus initiatives to monitor service levels and client needs.
• Collaborate in knowledge initiatives and contribute to practice growth and business development.
• Manage matters with strong commercial discipline, including timely timesheet submission and adherence to matter opening and conflicts clearance processes.
• Use delivery tools such as the Legal Support Centre, Resource Management, Legal Project Managers and Matter Balance Reports.

Required profile

• 4+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
• Australian qualification preferred; candidates with England & Wales or other Commonwealth qualifications will be considered.
• Strong experience in both contentious and non-contentious employment matters from a top-tier practice.
• Self-starter with experience in client engagement and development, and interest in a growing practice.
