Senior Associate – Charity & Not‑For‑Profit Law

About the role

This senior associate position offers the chance to join a highly respected practice that advises charities, not‑for‑profit organisations, member‑based associations and other purpose‑driven entities. You will work on complex, meaningful legal matters that have a genuine impact across education, healthcare, community services, arts, sport and philanthropy.

Key responsibilities

• Provide governance, constitutional and corporate advisory to a diverse client base.
• Assist with charity establishment, structuring, regulatory compliance and applications for charitable status, tax concessions and approvals.
• Draft detailed legal opinions, submissions and strategic advice on fundraising, membership and governance obligations.
• Support organisational restructures, mergers, collaborative arrangements and board‑level risk management.
• Handle internal governance disputes, constitutional interpretation and ongoing commercial and strategic legal support for executive teams and boards.

Required profile

• Approximately 5+ years post‑admission experience in corporate, commercial, governance, taxation, charities or not‑for‑profit law.
• Strong technical drafting and advisory abilities.
• Proven client‑relationship management with confidence and professionalism.
• Collaborative mindset and interest in mentoring junior lawyers.
• Genuine passion for supporting social‑impact and purpose‑driven organisations.
