Senior Animal Attendant - Pound Services

About the role

Melton City Council is seeking a part-time Senior Animal Attendant for its Pound Services team within the Community Safety Department. The position reports to the Pound Services Team Leader and supports the day-to-day operation of the pound facility in line with relevant legislation, codes of practice and Council policies. It is a permanent part-time role of 20 hours per week, with a salary range of $74,283 to $78,754 per annum pro rata plus 12% super.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all legislative requirements and relevant Codes of Practice are followed; the role acts as the Operations Manager under the Code of Practice for the Management of Shelters and Pounds.
• Carry out daily health and wellbeing checks of all impounded animals, including assessments and recommendations as required.
• Provide training and guidance to Animal Attendants and contractors as needed.
• Set up and maintain processes that encourage re-homing of impounded animals through animal rescues and shelters.

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Animal Control/Compliance or an equivalent certificate, or substantial animal pound/shelter experience.
• Experience caring for, cleaning, feeding and maintaining the hygiene of animals in an animal-keeping environment.
• Knowledge of the Codes of Practice and legislation relating to domestic animals and livestock.
• Valid Victorian driver's licence.
• Employee Working with Children Check, or ability to obtain one.
• Eligible to work in Australia and willing to undergo a criminal history record check.
