Senior Adviser – Research Contracts

About the role

The University of Western Australia is seeking a senior professional to lead the negotiation and management of research agreements that support nationally and internationally significant projects. You will work closely with researchers, external partners and the university's legal team to resolve contractual issues in a practical, solutions‑focused manner.

Key responsibilities

• Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of research agreements, including funding, material/data transfer, confidentiality and multi‑institution collaborations.
• Provide risk‑based advice on contracts and intellectual property to researchers and internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with the university’s legal department to resolve complex contractual matters.
• Support effective research partnerships by ensuring compliance with reporting, milestones and project lifecycle requirements.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience reviewing and negotiating complex contracts, preferably in research, government or commercial settings.
• Strong judgement with the ability to identify and manage contractual risks pragmatically.
• Proven analytical skills to spot gaps in agreements and work collaboratively to resolve them.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities, capable of influencing diverse groups.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high‑quality work to deadlines.
