Safety Coordinator - Commercial New Build $100m+

About the role

A national builder with decades of experience on large, diverse projects across Australia is recruiting a hands-on Safety Coordinator for a major, long-term commercial new build development on the Sunshine Coast. The project is multi-year, offers long-term job security and no commute to Brisbane, and sits within a team supported daily on site by a resident Site-Based Safety Advisor and backed by the Group Safety Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and run internal WHS audits, verify high-risk activities, track non-conformances and drive corrective actions to close-out.
• Review and approve trade Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), lift studies and permits to work.
• Oversee the site WHS Management Plan, maintain statutory registers and ensure documentation meets Federal Safety Commissioner (FSC) and ISO 45001 standards.
• Compile monthly WHS compliance reports and audit-ready documentation.
• Assist the Safety Advisor with incident triage, evidence gathering, root-cause investigations and regulatory records.
• Facilitate site inductions, toolbox talks and practical compliance across trade packages.

Required profile

• 2-5+ years of WHS coordination experience on commercial builds or large new-builds (Tier 1 or Tier 2 preferred).
• Proven track record of internal site audits, SWMS reviews, statutory registers and WHS administration.
• Solid working knowledge of the QLD Work Health and Safety Act 2011; FSC audit frameworks and ISO 45001 highly regarded.
• Based on the Sunshine Coast or genuinely relocating.

Required skills

• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (minimum); Diploma of WHS or Lead Auditor certification viewed favourably.
• General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
• Valid Australian driver's licence.
