RF/TM Specialist Engineer

About the role

Raytheon Australia is seeking a Senior Electronics/ICT Engineer specialising in RF and Telemetry (TM) for the Woomera Test Range Support Services Contract. The role involves deploying, maintaining, operating and sustaining RF equipment (including associated networking and software) that delivers Telemetry and Flight Termination functions for test outcomes supporting the Australian Defence Force. It is a hybrid position based in Mawson Lakes, with occasional travel to Woomera and other locations.

Key responsibilities

• Resolve technical RF/TM problems and mitigate risks that could delay work, affect system availability and performance, or impact training outcomes for the ADF.
• Analyse and assess customer requirements and recommend solutions to project teams.
• Keep up to date with existing technologies and explore new ones, and help develop and maintain technology roadmaps.
• Shape RF/TM solutions for range trials, ensure technical compliance with standards and recommendations, and recommend upgrades.
• Engage with engineering and technical teams, the Customer (ADF) and range customers (Defence Primes and private industry).

Required profile

• University degree in Engineering and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with RF engineering, telemetry standards and equipment, and TM processing.
• Ability to manage small projects or processes and to explain complex designs clearly to technical and non-technical people.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance.

Required skills

• RF engineering including link margin analysis, system design, test and surveys.
• Telemetry standards such as IRIG-106, PCM and TMoIP.
• TM processing including DCMs, decommutation and unit conversion.
• Application of Range Commander Council recommendations and product configuration control.
• Troubleshooting IP network communications and security technologies.
