ReefScan System Developer

About the role

The ReefScan System Developer will design, build and maintain software that powers the ReefScan product ecosystem used for marine surveys. Working from Townsville, you will collaborate with the Reef Joint Field Management Program to deliver reliable applications for remote, low‑connectivity environments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and support the ReefScan Field Console and browser‑based interfaces.
• Implement communication between edge devices, backend services and the Digital Oceans framework.
• Design Progressive Web Applications with offline‑first capabilities, service workers and local storage.
• Provide technical guidance, documentation and troubleshooting for field deployments.
• Participate in system design, prototyping, testing, validation and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or equivalent industry experience.
• Significant experience building modern web applications using JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Demonstrated ability to work with APIs, client‑server communication and distributed systems.
• Experience designing software for low‑connectivity, edge‑computing or IoT scenarios.

What we offer

• AIMS AOF Level 5 salary ($126,440 – $138,614 per annum) plus 15.4% superannuation.
