Purchasing Officer – Packaging Focus

About the role

The role is a hands‑on, operational Purchasing Officer position within a lean procurement team at a well‑established Australian manufacturer. You will own a defined packaging portfolio from day one and work closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Manage purchase orders end‑to‑end, from placement through delivery.
• Work with suppliers to schedule and expedite deliveries, manage back‑orders and control lead times.
• Review material requirements against MRP and production schedules, flagging issues early.
• Source quotes, negotiate with packaging suppliers and maintain day‑to‑day supplier relationships.
• Support packaging procurement, including custom packaging, artwork coordination and marketing requirements.
• Maintain ERP item master data and procurement records.

Required profile

• 2‑5 years of hands‑on purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in manufacturing, FMCG or food.
• Strong packaging procurement experience, understanding longer lead times, artwork approvals and external supplier management.
• Excellent administration and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise in a fast‑paced environment.
• Proactive, energetic and comfortable working with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel.
• ERP systems – experience with Dynamics 365 is beneficial.
