Psychiatrist (Part‑time, Melbourne Detention Centre)

About the role

Healthcare Australia is seeking a part‑time Psychiatrist to deliver comprehensive mental health assessments, diagnoses and treatment plans for individuals detained in the Melbourne Immigration Detention Centre.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct psychiatric assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Collaborate with medical, nursing and allied health teams to ensure coordinated, patient‑centred care.
• Provide expert clinical advice and support to the multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in education, training and quality‑improvement initiatives for mental health services.
• Ensure compliance with clinical governance, regulatory requirements and organisational policies.

Required profile

• Experience in complex clinical environments, preferably forensic, custodial or immigration health settings.
• Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse and trauma‑affected populations.
• Strong teamwork skills and a commitment to high‑quality mental health care.
