Project Engineer - Civil & Infrastructure

About the role

McMahon Services is growing its Civil & Infrastructure team in South Australia and is recruiting Project Engineers and Senior Project Engineers. You will plan, coordinate and deliver civil and infrastructure projects across Adelaide and regional South Australia, working alongside Project Managers, Construction Managers, Supervisors and engineering professionals. The underlying role supports projects across the full lifecycle, from planning and procurement through to commercial management, construction delivery and handover.

Key responsibilities

• Support and lead the delivery of major civil and infrastructure projects, taking ownership of allocated work packages from planning through to completion.
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, site teams and project resources.
• Support project planning, programming and construction scheduling.
• Manage procurement of materials, equipment and subcontractor packages.
• Monitor project costs, budgets, cash flow and progress against programme.
• Prepare and maintain project documentation and reporting, and support contract administration and subcontractor and supplier agreements.
• Prepare and manage RFIs and technical queries, and review drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Monitor construction performance, productivity and quality, identify risks and delays and implement solutions.
• Support value engineering and continuous improvement, and work with Supervisors and construction teams to resolve technical and delivery issues.
• Maintain a strong focus on WHSEQ across all project activities.
• Senior Project Engineers also take greater ownership of complex scopes, provide technical and project delivery leadership, mentor engineers and work closely with Project Managers on project strategy and performance.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Previous engineering experience in civil construction, infrastructure or major project delivery.
• Experience in project planning, construction scheduling and coordination, and exposure to contract administration and commercial project management.
• Current Construction White Card and current driver's licence.
• Flexibility to work across Adelaide and regional South Australian projects depending on project requirements.
• For Senior Project Engineer roles, more established project delivery experience and ability to take ownership of larger or more complex scopes.

Required skills

• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Understanding of project costs, budgets and financial performance.
• Strong technical and practical problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Preferred: experience on major civil or infrastructure projects, bulk earthworks, roads, drainage, structures, utilities, water, sewer or underground services, regional or remote projects, defence or government infrastructure, and mentoring engineers.
• Preferred: experience with MS Project, Primavera, InEight, Aconex or Procore.
