Project Engineer - AHU & Custom HVAC

About the role

Daikin Australia is looking for a Project Engineer specialising in AHU and custom HVAC equipment to join its local manufacturing operations. The role covers the development, design and execution of local Make to Order (MTO) HVAC projects, working directly on optimising custom equipment designs for quality, performance, manufacturability and compliance with Australian standards.

Key responsibilities

• Create detailed engineering drawings, 3D models and cost estimations for custom HVAC products to support sales and business development.
• Develop accurate manufacturing drawings and production instructions for project tenders.
• Specify and select materials, components and equipment aligned with project scope, industry standards and sustainability goals.
• Provide hands-on technical support to production teams during assembly and fabrication, troubleshooting design and technical issues.
• Maintain technical documentation, project schedules and progress reports, working with procurement, quality assurance and sales.

Required profile

• Tertiary degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering).
• Relevant professional accreditation (e.g. CPEng, MIEAust) is advantageous.
• 3-5 years of experience in a project or design engineering role within the Australian HVAC industry.
• Proactive engineer with a strong foundation in mechanical HVAC design and a passion for continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Hands-on CAD experience (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Revit)
• Sound knowledge of HVAC principles, airflow dynamics, thermodynamics and acoustics
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, DFMA and sustainable design
• Strong project management, communication and teamwork skills
