Welder / Boilermaker - Railway Rolling Stock

About the role

A skilled welder or boilermaker is sought for a dedicated position in Chipping Norton, focused on the structural repair, modification and overhaul of railway rolling stock, wagon bogies and heavy steel structures. The role is offered through a recruitment agency and is described as stable and well paid.

Key responsibilities

• Perform structural welding, modifications and repairs to railway rolling stock, wagon bogies and heavy frames.
• Produce high-quality welds using MIG/FCAW and MMAW (stick) to standard specifications.
• Prepare components by cutting, gouging and grinding to exacting tolerances.
• Read and interpret fabrication blueprints, technical drawings and weld symbols.
• Inspect completed welds visually to ensure compliance with quality control standards.
• Follow SWMS and site safety protocols to keep the workspace clean and hazard-free.

Required profile

• Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication / Boilermaking / Heavy Welding) or a recognised equivalent.
• Proven experience in heavy structural fabrication, ideally on rolling stock, transport equipment, earthmoving machinery or heavy structural steel.
• Confident reading and working from fabrication drawings and technical schematics.
