Senior Design Engineer - AHU

About the role

Daikin Australia is hiring a Senior Design Engineer for Air Handling Units (AHU), reporting to the Senior R&D Manager for Commercial and New Business. The role manages, supports and leads all aspects of AHU-related projects, overseeing product development through a structured schedule and working cross-functionally with manufacturing, sales and global Daikin affiliates.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage end-to-end R&D AHU product development projects, from initial requirements to delivery, with clear timelines and milestone tracking.
• Provide technical guidance to the Manufacturing team, resolving design, application and production issues quickly to minimise disruption.
• Work around software limitations to evaluate and document design modifications, delivering cost-effective, compliant AHU solutions.
• Partner with Applied, Manufacturing, QA, Purchasing and international affiliates, using Gemba insights and competitive benchmarking to shape market-aligned products.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (preferred).
• At least 8 years of experience leading project management and product development initiatives.
• Demonstrated background in AHU product design and air conditioning design.
• High integrity, strong problem-solving mindset and ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers and overseas affiliates.

Required skills

• Mandatory experience with coil, fan and motor selection software.
• Experience with sheet metal design is highly regarded.
