Product Owner – Defence Systems

About the role

Join Saab Australia as a Product Owner within the Systems Delivery Group, acting as the primary customer advocate and ensuring the product delivers maximum value. You will bridge business needs and development teams, guiding the delivery of defence and security software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Prioritise module development, bug fixes and documentation updates, ensuring timely task completion.
• Define in‑scope functionality and assess system‑wide impacts of out‑of‑scope items.
• Collaborate with systems engineering and software teams to execute product development smoothly.
• Communicate system requirements and designs, including HMI and functional chains, aligning all teams on deliverables.
• Provide technical support to Team Leads and review software artefacts against subsystem specifications.
• Support sprint and quarterly planning, retrospectives and ensure efficient goal achievement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Three or more years in systems engineering for software‑intensive, preferably defence, systems.
• Understanding of systems engineering principles, requirements management, architecture and verification.
• Australian citizenship with ability to obtain Defence Security Clearance (NV1 preferred).

Required skills

• Proficiency with systems engineering tools such as DOORS and Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for cross‑functional collaboration.
