Principal Traction Power Engineer

About the role

WSP is seeking a Principal Traction Power Engineer to lead the design and delivery of safe, reliable traction power systems for major rail and infrastructure projects across Australia. You will shape technical strategy, mentor a high‑performing team, and act as a trusted advisor to clients and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead traction power engineering inputs across the full project lifecycle for major rail and transport projects.
• Provide technical leadership, review, and governance for traction power designs and assurance activities.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, project teams, and stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop engineers, contributing to capability growth and knowledge sharing.
• Support bids, proposals, and early‑phase project planning with technical insight.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, high‑quality outcomes.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in traction power engineering within rail or major infrastructure environments.
• Strong technical grounding across AC and DC traction power systems and associated interfaces.
• Proven ability to lead technical delivery and influence project outcomes.
• Experience engaging with clients and stakeholders in a consulting or similar environment.
• Relevant engineering degree and professional standing or progress toward professional recognition.
• Collaborative mindset with a focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
