Principal Solicitor – Police Advisory

About the role

The Principal Solicitor in the Police Advisory Branch will provide high‑level legal and strategic advice on complex and sensitive matters, supervise files and mentor junior lawyers. This senior position offers exposure to high‑profile police issues and a hybrid work arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide authoritative legal advice and representation across diverse police advisory areas, including statutory interpretation, criminal law, subpoenas, privacy, forensic procedures, emergency management and summary prosecutions.
• Supervise legal files, mentor junior lawyers and share knowledge across the branch to foster a collaborative environment.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as a lawyer, preferably with exposure to policing or law‑enforcement environments.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement under pressure and navigate complex legal issues in a fast‑paced setting.

Required skills

• Expertise in advising on police duties, powers and responsibilities under common law and statute.
• Strong knowledge of criminal law, statutory interpretation, administrative law, privacy and information sharing.
