Principal Software Engineer - Cloud Storage

About the role

NetApp is looking for a Principal Software Engineer in its Cloud Storage organization, which partners with major hyperscalers (AWS, GCP and Azure) and is building SaaS applications for cloud-native applications. The role leads and executes the most challenging and complex projects, working on AWS, Azure and GCP with cutting-edge technology.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and execute complex projects, covering system architecture, cloud architectures, performance and scalability.
• Decompose complex problems into simple solutions, understand system interdependencies and limitations, and bring engineering best practices and testing methods to the team.
• Provide end-to-end architecture for major initiatives, design distributed systems and cloud-native products and scale them to production.
• Contribute to implementation, design and code reviews, and make high-quality technical decisions under ambiguity.
• Work across engineering, product and leadership, and communicate with customers, stakeholders and the engineering community.

Required profile

• 15+ years in software development.
• 7+ years hands-on with fault-tolerant, highly scalable cloud architectures, including service-oriented and cloud-native services (FaaS, PaaS) on at least one hyperscaler (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field; a Master's degree in engineering or software development is preferred.
• Proactive, self-driven, with strong technical judgment and influential skills.

Required skills

• Expertise in one or more of Node.js, Python, Java, Go or Rust; front-end experience (TypeScript, React or Angular) is a plus.
• Preferred: experience designing data migration systems and storage platforms, filesystems or storage protocols (NFS/SMB/iSCSI), and building developer-facing products, APIs or SDKs.
• Preferred: containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation); prior experience as a principal engineer or technical lead.

What we offer

• Target salary range of $220,000-$356,000, depending on location, qualifications, experience and education.
