Principal Secondary System Engineer I

About the role

Lead the design and delivery of secondary, protection and related electrical systems for major energy infrastructure projects. You will provide technical mentorship, ensure best‑practice standards, and drive project execution from initiation to completion.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design projects for secondary, protection and control systems, preparing single line diagrams, protection logic diagrams, metering layouts and cable termination diagrams.
• Conduct relay coordination studies, power system studies (load flow, short‑circuit, transient stability, motor starting, arc‑flash) and develop SCADA communication schemes.
• Support commissioning and testing, including Factory Acceptance Testing and site integration of secondary systems.

Required profile

• 7+ years experience delivering secondary systems and protection projects for utility‑scale clients.
• Proven ability to work independently, lead multidisciplinary teams and engage stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Australian standards (AS/NZS) and experience with grid utilities is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Preparation of single line diagrams (SLDs) and protection logic diagrams.
• Relay coordination studies and relay setting calculations.
• Power system analysis: load flow, short‑circuit, transient stability, motor starting, arc‑flash.
• SCADA communication design and system integration.
• Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and site commissioning support.
