Principal Mechanical Engineer - Building Services

About the role

AECOM's Buildings & Places team in Melbourne is growing and is looking for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to take a leading role in high-profile, multidisciplinary projects across the defence and data-centre sectors. The role combines technical expertise, commercial awareness and collaboration, and involves mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and delivery for major client projects, from concept through to completion
• Deliver innovative, practical and cost-effective solutions across projects of varying size, scope and complexity
• Take part in technical reviews and design assurance so deliverables meet the highest standards
• Work in multidisciplinary engineering teams and contribute to interdisciplinary reviews
• Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders to drive project delivery
• Mentor and develop junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge
• Review design calculations, drawings and technical documentation for quality control

Required profile

• Ideally 10+ years in a Building Services consultancy or significant senior-level design experience in Mechanical Services
• Demonstrated experience delivering projects in the defence and/or data-centre sectors
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline
• Australian citizenship is required; previous or current Australian Government defence security clearance is highly regarded

Required skills

• Strong technical design experience across HVAC and mechanical engineering
• Client management, project delivery and stakeholder engagement
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet project deadlines
• Strong knowledge of Australian building services projects, codes and standards
